Run For The Roses…

Run For The Roses…

On February 7, 1969, Diane Crump was just 18 years old when she became the first professional female jockey in the U.S. when she rode at the Hialeah Park Race Track in Florida.  She had to have a full police escort at the track because an  angry crowd swarmed her and shouted “Go back to the kitchen and cook dinner!”   She followed this historic feat one year later when she became the first female to ride at the Kentucky Derby on May 2, 1970. Since then, she is just one of six women who have “Run for the Roses”.  And even though she placed 15th out of a field of 17, she went on to win over 200 races during her career.
